US hospital ship gives out free health checks

The US hospital ship USNS Mercy (T-AH19) will provide free health check-up and treatment for residents in the central coastal city of Da Nang during its visit from August 17-28, according to the city's Department of Foreign Affairs.

The 1,000-bed mobile hospital has 12 operating rooms, with highly trained medical professionals to handle trauma, pediatric, and orthopedic care.

Kien Giang spends $5.3m to restore forests

Kien Giang Province People's Committee has approved the "Protective coastal forest restoration and development" project for 2015-20 period, according to Mai Anh Nhin, deputy chairman of the committee.

The 208km-long project with a total investment capital of VND114.4 billion (US$5.3 million) will stretch from Mui Nai Beach in Ha Tien Town to Tieu Dua culvert in An Minh District.

When completed, the project will enlarge the area of protective forest in the province by 519ha.

Landslide-prone areas identified in HCM City

The HCM City Department of Transport has identified 44 areas prone to landslides along rivers and canals in the city.

Fourteen spots with a high risk of landslides are in Nha Be District and four other areas are in Can Gio District.

Twenty-eight projects have been approved to prevent landslides, including 10 projects under construction, according to the department.
