Eight systems which supply clean water to about 7,000 households in Binh Thuan District have suspended operations due to a water shortage caused by the recent drought, according to Ly Huu Phuoc, the director of the provincial Centre for Clean Water and Environmental Sanitation.
The affected water supply systems are located in the province's districts of Tuy Phong, Ham Thuan Bac, Ham Thuan Nam and Ham Tan.
Because of the water shortage, locals have had to use alum-contaminated water from wells dug near their houses, Phuoc said.

Slow land clearance delays Sai Gon Safari
Slow land clearance has delayed the construction of the long-awaited Sai Gon Safari Park in HCM City's Cu Chi District.
According to the city government, 485 hectares of land had been allocated to the project to build a world-class centre to house animals and picnic areas. The centre would also conduct research.
However, construction has not progressed due to slow land clearance and compensation to local residents.
