The Quang Tri Province's People's Committee and Mines Advisory Group (MAG) on Monday signed an agreement to look for unexploded ordnance in the locality between 2015 and 2017.
According to the agreement, MAG will work with local residents to detect and destroy unexploded ordnance which threatens the life of people in Quang Tri, and organise training courses to improve awareness among residents and tourists about mines and unexploded ordnance.
The US$10 million project will be carried out under support from the US Department of State. Quang Tri has cleared 8,399 ha of land contaminated with UXOs and removed or destroyed 556,448 UXOs.

Leader of human trafficking ring arrested
Border guards in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province on Sunday arrested Nguyen Thi Hien, 30, of Ben Tre Province at Tan Son Nhat Airport on charges of trafficking a Vietnamese woman to China. The woman was with her at the airport when officials detained Hien.
According to officials, a few months ago, Hien returned to Viet Nam from China and visited Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province's Dat Do District and met the 33-year-old woman. Hien had told the woman she could move to another country to work for a high salary.

New city pedestrian street to have free wifi
The newly built Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street will soon have free wifi around the clock. Le Truong Hai Hieu, deputy chairman of District 1's People's Committee, said that 160 benches would also be installed on the street early next month.
The benches are made of wood from trees that had once stood in front of the HCM City Opera House. They were cut down to make way for construction of the Ben Thanh – Suoi Tien metro line.
