Resort fined for restricting beach access

The central province of Khanh Hoa has imposed a fine of VND30 million (US$1,400) on the five-star Evason Ana Mandara Resort in Nha Trang for banning local people and tourists from walking and gathering in a public beach area near the resort.

Ngo Khac Thinh of the province's urban management division said the resort's action was unacceptable.

Bac Lieu Province calls for investment

The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Bac Lieu is calling for investment in 15 key projects in the province this year. These include three property projects at new urban areas, two tourism projects, six road infrastructure projects, two healthcare projects and two agriculture projects.

The projects are expected to help contribute to the province's socio-economic development and fully tap the potential of rice and shrimp production as well as fishing, according to the provincial People's Committee.

Bitexco commissions plant generator

Nam Muc Hydropower Company, under the Bitexco Group, on Wednesday commissioned the first generator of Nam Muc hydropower plant in the northern province of Dien Bien.

The hydropower plant, the largest in Dien Bien, began construction in December 2009 on Nam Muc River, a branch of Da River. The plan consists of two generators with a total capacity of 44MW and annual power output of 176.33 million kWh

The facility is expected to join the national grid this month, while the second generator will join next month.
