The HCM City Farmers Association on Tuesday honoured 58 individual farmers and farmer groups that achieved excellent results from 2010 to 2015.
The association's grassroots branches have rebuilt 600 dilapidated or temporary houses, and built more than 1,700 new houses for poor farmers in outlying districts.
Twenty seven of the city's 56 rural communes have met all standards of "new rural areas".

Seminar tackles problem of smuggling
The National Steering Committee on the Prevention and Control of Smuggling, Trade Fraud and Fake Commodities (Committee 389) on Tuesday held a seminar in Quang Ninh Province about fraudulent activities in six northern border provinces.
Smuggling occurs on roads and sea routes in Lang Son, Quang Ninh, Lao Cai and Dien Bien provinces, according to the Committee 389. The smugglers are well organised and use modern equipment. Most smuggled goods are coal, petrol, cigarettes, electronics, foods and drugs.
In the first quarter of the year, the border provinces in the north discovered 6,491 cases of smuggling, commercial fraud and counterfeit goods.

Da Nang launches month for workers
The Da Nang City Trade Union on Tuesday launched its "Month for Workers" campaign and sports games for 2015.
During the "Month for Workers", the city's trade unions at all levels will hold activities such as art performances, talk shows, discussions about legal issues and price-stabilised goods programmes.
At the launch ceremony, Viet Nam Trade Union's Fund for Sponsoring Children presented gifts for children of needy workers.

Dong Nai attracts $900m in FDI
The southeastern province of Dong Nai has attracted more than US$907 million of foreign direct investment as of mid-April. Of the figure, $771 million are new FDI projects and the rest are from existing FDI projects, according to the Dong Nai Industrial Park Authority.
Dong Nai has targeted $900 million of FDI this year. The province wants to attract FDI projects in support industries, and high-tech and environmentally friendly fields.

WHO says many Vietnamese are fat
A report from the W orld Health Organisation says the number of Vietnamese adults who are overweight or obese accounted for about 25 per cent of the population in 2014, the Health Preventive Department under the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday. It attributed the causes to high-fat, high-calorie foods and lack of physical activity.
