City residents donate land, money for roads

People living in HCM City's Thu Duc District have, since 2000, donated 5,000sq.m of land, equivalent to VND25 billion ($1.1 million), for laying roads.

They have also contributed over VND13 billion ($619,000) to upgrade and build roads.

Ministry of Health to change medical uniforms

The Ministry of Health plans to change healthcare employees' uniforms, with different sections getting different coloured clothes.

The ministry said all the staff now wore white, which made it difficult for patients and their relatives to distinguish between doctors and nurses.

Binh Duong builds houses for migrant workers

The southern province of Binh Duong has started construction of over 6,100 apartments meant for migrant workers.

This is a part of a programme to build social housing from now through 2020, with more than 60,000 apartments to be built at a cost of more than VND12 trillion (VND571 million).

The average price of a house (30sq.m) is expected to be over VND100 million.

HCM City to hold fireworks displays

The HCM City People's Committee announced on Wednesday plans to let off fireworks at eight spots around the city on Reunification Day, April 30.

The places include Bitexco Financial Tower in District 1, Ben Duoc Temple in Cu Chi District, the Lang Le-Bau Co Relic in Binh Chanh District and some parks in Districts 9 and 11. The fireworks will go off between 10pm and 10.15pm.
