HCM City to generate power from waste

The deputy chairman of HCM City's People's Committee, Le Manh Ha, has proposed that the city build a power plant from discharged waste. He suggested the idea to the municipal Department of Science and Technologies, the HCM City Power Company and other agencies.

The plant would consume 1,000 tonnes of waste a day to produce 600,000kWh of electricity. It would use Stoker boiler technology from South Korea.

HCM City discharges 7,500 tonnes of waste a day and more than 80 per cent is organic.
