The Mekong Delta province of Hau Giang plans to store fresh water for irrigating its paddy fields since marine tides coming inland increase the salt content in many rivers and canals to more than two parts per thousand, which will affect 25,000 hectares of spring-summer and summer-autumn rice crops.
Provincial authorities have instructed that when the salt content in rivers and major canals tops two parts per thousand, water from them should not be used for irrigation.

Go Vap District Hospital to have 300 beds
Construction of one more facility of the Go Vap District Hospital in HCM City began in Quang Trung Street last Friday.
To have 300 beds and cost VND470 billion (US$22 million), the 13,340sq.m hospital will be completed in 20 months.

HCM City to give electric buses test run
The HCM City Department of Transport has tasked the Public Transport Management and Operation Centre to operate electric buses on a trial basis in the Phu My Hung Urban Area in District 7.
It has also instructed its road traffic management division to work with the city traffic police and people's committees in Districts 1 and 3 to map routes for electric buses in central areas.

Foreign tourist numbers fall at start of year
The number of foreign tourists decreased by 10 per cent year-on-year in the first two months of 2015 to nearly1.5 million, according to the Viet Nam National Administration of Tourism.
Visitor numbers from China, Hong Kong, Russia, Laos, and Taiwan were down, but there was an increase in the number of people coming from countries like Korea, New Zealand, Italy, and Spain.
However, revenues from tourism rose by 6.6 per cent to VND67.8 trillion ($322.9 million).

Ba Ria-Vung Tau grants business licences
The southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau last Friday issued licences for nine domestic and foreign business projects with a total investment of more than VND2.6 trillion ($123.9 million).
Nguyen Tuan Minh, the province Party Committee secretary, said the projects are in health, education, infrastructure, and trade and environmentally friendly and would help develop a green economy in the province. The province has 290 FDI projects with a total investment of nearly $27 billion.
