The People's Committee of the north-central province of Quang Binh has approved a preferential policy on providing land and water for 21,776 poor people including ethnic minorities in 44 disadvantaged communes and 27 disadvantaged villages.
Total capital of more than VND308 billion (US$14.7 million) from the State and local budgets will be used to build 55 new water-supply systems and upgrade 60 water-supply networks. Land will also be provided to the families.

City checks paper-making facilities
The HCM City People's Committee has told the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to work with other agencies to evaluate paper manufacturing facilities in the city.
The Department of Industry and Trade will be tasked working with agencies to check paper manufacturing facilities. If any facility causes pollution, it will be fined and forced to update technologies and expand capacity to at least 50,000 tonnes per year. If not, the facility will be moved.
The Department of Science and Technology has been asked to compile a list of technologies that cannot be used, and those that should be used, by paper manufacturers. The city's Industrial Park and Export Processing Zone Authority (HEPZA) will also check the land funds at IPs and EPZs to see if paper manufacturing facilities could be moved to these areas.

More buses scheduled for Tet
HCM City will increase the number of buses to 525 for six heavily travelled routes for the Lunar Tet holiday, according to the city Public Transport Management and Operation Centre.
The six routes are District 1's Ben Thanh Market-District 11's Dam Sen Park, Tan Phu District's Tan Huong Market-Thu Duc District's International University, Binh Thanh District's Mien Dong (Eastern) Bus Station-Dam Sen Park, Hoc Mon District's An Suong Bus Station-Binh Chanh District's Bat Buu Phat Dai Pagoda known as Lonely Buddha, Binh Tan District's Mien Tay (Western) Bus Station-An Suong Bus Station, and Sai Gon- Can Gio District.

Cat Bi Airport expanded
The Airport Corporation of Viet Nam and Hai Phong City People's Committee last Saturday kicked off a project to expand the terminal at Cat Bi International Airport with total capital of VND1.5 trillion ($71.4 million) from the corporation's development and investment fund.
The terminal, which would have a capacity of four million passengers each year, is expected to be in use by the fourth quarter of 2016. The existing terminal's capacity is only 300 passengers and 800,000 during the peak season each year.

State ensures drug supply during Tet
The Drug Administration of Viet Nam has told health departments in provinces and cities to direct hospitals in their localities to store drugs in order to avoid drug shortage to serve the public during the Tet holiday, especially for emergency aid and prevention of H5N1 influenza, hand-foot-mouth disease, dengue fever, measles, rubella, diarhoea caused by Rota virus and respiratory diseases.
Health departments should also be aware of fake drugs and drugs not allowed for sale in the market.
