Tea exports decline due to poor quality

Despite relevant ministries, agencies and companies have implemented tea export promotion activities, the country's tea exports continued to fall last year because of low quality.

The country exported 134,000 tonnes of tea worth US$229 million last year, down 5.3 per cent in volume and 0.2 per cent in value against 2013, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Viet Nam is one of the five largest tea exporters in the world. The country's tea-planting localities grow mostly old tea varieties that do not meet demand for high-quality tea.
