The southern province of Binh Duong plans to earmark VND511.4 billion (US$23.9 million) and raise another VND1.48 trillion from other sources for the federal New Rural Area Programme this year.
Last year seven communes in the province met the criteria for new rural areas, taking the total number to 11.
The criteria are related to infrastructure, environmental protection, social security, agricultural and business production, people's livelihoods, culture, and others.

MoF steps in to ensure stable prices
The Ministry of Finance on Tuesday ordered relevant agencies to strengthen market oversight and ensure there are no sudden price surges during the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.
Financial agencies have been ordered to monitor supply and demand as well as the prices of essential items and services like rice, meat, vegetables, beverages, confectionery, flowers, ornamental trees, and transportation to prevent hoarding and spreading of rumours to push up prices.
The Department of Finance, tax agencies, and customs and market management forces nation-wide have been instructed to monitor prices of food and foodstuffs, gas, medicines, and others.

Garment, textile exports to Japan to rise 9%
Garment and textile exports to Japan are expected to rise by 9 per cent this year to US$2.9 billion, according to the Viet Nam Textile and Apparel Association.
Last year they were worth $2.7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9 per cent, the association said.
