City trade hits nearly $63b

HCM City's import-export figure has topped US$62.77 billion this year, according to its Department of Statistics.

Exports were worth $32.08 billion, a rise of 8.8 per cent from last year, and imports, $30.69 billion, up 7.2 per cent, it said.

Road accident fatalities decrease by 4%

This year there were 25,322 traffic accidents in the country in which 8,996 people died and 24,417 others were injured, respectively down 4,063, 373, and 5,083 from last year, according to the National Traffic Safety Committee.

There were 4.4 million violations of road traffic laws, which resulted in fines of VND2.58 trillion ($120.5 million) and the cancellation of 370,255 driving licenses, it said.

South exports $1.5b worth of fruit

The southern region exported around 1.6 million tonnes of fruits this year for nearly $1.5 billion, according to the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Ben Tre's cultivation department.

Five of the most profitable items were dragon fruit, mango, rambutan, durian, and longan, according to the department.
