Poor students receive scholarships

Clothes and scholarships worth several million dong each were given to nearly 300 poor students from fishermen's families and ethnic minorities in the provinces of Quang Tri, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, Binh Thuan and Khanh Hoa. The Scholarship Fund for Poor Students launched by the Young People's Association and its partners funded the awards.

Rach Gia Airport re-opens after upgrade

The Rach Gia Airport located in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Kien Giang reopened yesterday after two months of closure for a runway upgrade. The airport has a 1,500-metre-long runway and a 2,500-square-metre terminal able to handle 250,000 passengers annually.

In additional to Viet Nam Airline's flights from HCM City and Phu Quoc to Rach Gia, the airport serves chartered flights of Viet Nam Air Services Co. (Vasco) as well as military and private flights.

New apartment blocks for labourers launched

Two apartment blocks of 800 rooms opened last weekend for 2,400 labourers working in the Linh Trung II Export Processing Zone in HCM City's Thu Duc District, according to the Linh Trung's managing board. Two pre-schools for 200 children aged one to four opened in the blocks as well.

There are 11 apartment blocks serving 11,400 migrant labourers in the city so far this year, meeting 70 per cent of the need of migrants.
