Banks to prioritise agriculture loans

Vo Minh Tuan, deputy head of the credit department under the State Bank of Viet Nam, said the bank system in the Mekong Delta would focus on loans for production and processing of seafood, fruit and rice.

Credit growth in the Mekong Delta has risen faster than the average rate in the country, accounting for 6.5 per cent of mobilised capital.

Smuggling ring busted in Mong Cai

A large smuggling ring from China to Viet Nam was busted by police in Mong Cai city in the northeastern province of Quang Ninh on Sunday with 10 people in custody.

On Sunday morning, after discovering 12 boats carrying goods from China to Viet Nam and about 20 tonnes of goods being loaded on three trucks, the police raided storage areas and seized over 100 tonnes of smuggled goods of all kinds at Mong Cai Commerce Company.

VN invests $5b in Laos

Vietnamese enterprises have invested in 423 projects with total capital of nearly $5b in Laos, according to a report from the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

Vietnamese companies have poured $4.7b into Laos, mainly in the energy, infrastructure, agriculture, forestry and mining sectors.
