HCM City sees FDI surge by 98%

HCM City attracted US$2.93 billion of registered capital from foreign-direct investment (FDI) projects this year, an increase of 97.85 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the HCM City's Department of Planning and Investment.

The city issued investment certificates to 327 FDI projects with total registered capital of $2.6 billion, including a $1.4-billion project on home appliance production from South Korean company Samsung Electronics. Other projects focused on processing, manufacturing and real estate.

MoH to help build hospitals in Dien Bien

The Ministry of Health will offer help to the northern province of Dien Bien to improve community health and build five district-level hospitals, according to Minister Nguyen Thi Kim Tuyen.

The ministry will also provide medical equipment to Nam Bo District Hospital, and launch a project to train health workers. The ministry has asked the province to restructure and improve its community-health services.

Health, beauty shops fined for violations

The HCM City Department of Health inspected 4,629 health, beauty and cosmetics shops from May to August, and found violations of safety, hygiene and business certificate standards at 645 shops. The department fined 574 shops a total of VND6.6 billion ($314,000) and suspended the operation of 71 others.
