Central Highlands airport to undergo $45m

The expansion and upgrading of Pleiku Airport in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai will begin on Sunday, the Airport Corporation of Viet Nam (ACV) has announced. The project with a cost of VND943.8 billion (US$44.94 million) funded by the State budget, ACV and the provincial budget will upgrade and lengthen the taxiway, runway and parking space at the airport. Once completed next year, the airport will be able to handle A320/ 321 aircraft and Boeing 737.

Project protects disappearing wild elephants

The People's Committee of the southern province of Dong Nai approved an urgent project to protect wild Asian elephants in the province, said Le Viet Dung, deputy head of the province's Forest Protection Division.

The project with a cost of more than VND74 billion (US$3.52 million) is being assessed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

According to the ministry's Forest Protection Department, wild Asian elephants have been sighted in Nghe An, Dak Lak and Dong Nai provinces.

In Dong Nai province, at the end of 2001, around 15-20 wild elephants were left at Cat Tien National Park, Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve and La Nga Forestry Company. In 2013, there were only 10 elephants in the province.
