Twenty-two new projects with total investment capital of more than VND33 trillion (US$1.57 billion) have been granted licences on Phu Quoc Island in Kien Giang Province since the beginning of the year. This raised the total licensed investment projects on the island to 194, the South West Steering Committee said at a conference held on Monday in Can Tho City.
The committee said it would continue to promote preferential policies for investment in Phu Quoc and improve administrative procedures during the second half of the year.

City reduces area for industrial parks
Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai has ordered the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the HCM City People's Committee to adjust plans on industrial parks in HCM City.
Tan Tao Industrial Park will reduce its total area from 175.5 hectares to 161.3 hectares. The expanded area of Tan Tao Industrial Park will be reduced to 182 hectares from more than 204 hectares.
Phong Phu Industrial Park project will be shifted into a high-tech complex, with its total area being cut from 148 hectares to 134 hectares.
The Deputy Prime Minister also asked to take the 114-hectare Phu Huu Industrial Park project out of the national development plan on industrial parks.

MoH warns of spread of acute diarrhoea
The Ministry of Health on Monday asked the Preventive Medicine Department, the HCM City Department of Health and Pasteur Institute in HCM City to take urgent actions to prevent the spread of acute diarrhoea in HCM City.
Hospitals in the city were asked to ensure safe water and hygienic conditions as well as provide information on prevention of the disease for patients.
According to the ministry, the HCM City Children's Hospital No.1 and the HCM City Hospital for Tropical Diseases have recently treated some cases of acute diarrhoea, including one death of a 10-month-old infant.
