The National Agriculture Promotion Centre on Tuesday said it would encourage more farmers in seven northern mountainous provinces to continue to raise fish in breeding cages in rivers and reservoirs.
The centre, at a forum held in Phu Tho Province, explained to attendees the importance of choosing good fish varieties, installing fish cages and disease prevention for sustainable development.
The northern mountainous provinces – Son La, Vinh Phuc, Hoa Binh, Ha Giang, Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai and Phu Tho – have more than 3,400 fish cages with a total output of 5,600 tonnes. However, most fish cages in the northern provinces have a low yield and small scale.
