Binh Dinh households lack clean water

More than 18,700 households in the central province of Binh Dinh do not have access to clean water as 112 of 165 water reservoirs are dry.

The province said that nearly 29,000 households would lack access to clean water if there was not sufficient rainfall by the end of August.

The provincial People's Committee has asked agricultural authorities and agencies to offer financial support to residents to repair and upgrade wells, and dig new wells.

55,000 workers apply for foreign jobs

More than 55,000 people in Viet Nam applied for overseas jobs in the first six months of the year, achieving 63.5 per cent of this year's target, according to the Overseas Labour Management Department.

The number of Vietnamese guest workers in Taiwan increased 187 per cent compared to the same period last year, with Japan rising by 180 per cent, and South Korea by 182 per cent.

The department also issued business licences to 16 new labour-export enterprises.

Khanh Hoa builds 100 fishing vessels

The fishermen of Khanh Hoa Province upgraded nearly 100 fishing vessels with 300 or more horsepower during the first half of this year.

The province has about 10,000 fishing vessels, including 1,000 off-shore ships working in the sea of Hoang Sa and Truong Sa.

Vo Thien Lang, chairman of the provincial fishing association, said the new fishing boats had increased productivity.
