Mekong fruit prices decline

 The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta is entering the harvest season for many speciality fruits, but the selling prices have fallen below production costs. The price of two speciality mango varieties – Hoa Loc and Cat Chu – in Dong Thap Province has fallen 70 per cent against last month. Besides low prices, farmers are facing difficulties in finding outlets for their fruits.

Quang Nam preserves white sand

The central province of Quang Nam has been designated a white-sand mining area under a decision by the Prime Minister. The province has a reserve of about 250 million tonnes of white sand in Dien Ban City and Duy Xuyen, Thang Long, Tam Ky and Nui Thanh districts.

Ca Mau supports ethnic minorities

The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Ca Mau will spend more than VND50 billion (US$2.3 million) to implement preferential policies for its ethnic people in 2014-15. The province has nearly 12,000 households of 13 different ethnic minorities. Of the figure, 50 per cent lack land for housing and production.

EVN plans to release water in central region

The Viet Nam Electricity (EVN) on Tuesday said it would release water for agricultural production in the Central Highlands and other central regions for this year's summer-autumn crop and for household use.
