Ethnic minority areas to get new bridges

The Prime Minister has approved a plan to build 186 bridges in 28 northern mountainous, central, and Central Highlands provinces mostly inhabited by ethnic minorities to enable safe travel.

He has also agreed for the Government to fund the plan.

Quang Nam to develop supporting industries

The central province of Quang Nam has approved a plan to develop supporting industries through 2020.

Basic mechanical engineering using modern technologies, mould production, auto spare parts, agricultural machinery, electronics, high-tech plastic, chips, textile and garment, and footwear are among the list of priorities for investment.

The development of supporting industries is aimed at serving the manufacturing and garment and textile industries.

Corn imports climb in 2014

Viet Nam imported 2.04 million tonnes of maize for US$526 million in the first four months, mainly from Brazil, India, and the US.

Last year 2.26 million tonnes were imported for $690 million, a 38 per cent rise in value over 2012.
