Hue children, sick not forgotten

More than 2,100 children in rural districts in Thua Thien - Hue received gifts of food and toys for Tet (Lunar New Year) from the central province's Child Welfare Foundation.

Their total value was VND630 million (US$30,000).

The provincial Red Cross gave gifts worth VND4.2 billion ($200,000) to 13,800 poor patients.

VN exports to Russia rise to $2b

Viet Nam's exports to Russia were worth US$2 billion in 2013, a year-on-year increase of 18 per cent.

The main export items were telephones and components, computers, garments, fishery products, shoes, and coffee.

Tay Ninh shuts down quarries

The Tay Ninh Province People's Committee has approved the closure of five stone mines in Thanh Tay Commune to both conserve natural resources and restore the beauty of Ba Den Mountain, which boasts of a network of caves and other glorious landscapes.

The mines extended over an area of 16 hectares.

Most people in Da Nang are insured

The Da Nang Social Insurance Agency reported that 929,192 residents, or 93.9 per cent of the city's population, have health insurance.

The premiums collected for social and health insurance topped VND2.55 trillion ($121 million) last year, a year-on-year increase of 5.3 per cent.
