Archaeological site to be protected

The Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) province of Lam Dong has approved a project to conserve the Cat Tien archaeological site in the Cat Tien National Park by 2017.

The VND38 billion (US$1.8 million) project aims to protect relics at the site, improve the surrounding landscape, and organise tourism activities.

City to hand over 12,500 resettlement flats

The HCM City People's Committee has ordered the Department of Construction to complete 12,500 apartments at the Thu Thiem Urban Area in District 2 for resettlement of dislocated people by 2015.

According to the department, there are only 1,132 condos to be given to the residents. It plans to hand over 3,600 condos this year.

HCM City hospitals to get extra funding

HCM City's major hospitals will receive an extra VND32 billion ($1.5 million), according to the Ministry of Finance.

The money will be used for buying technologies and medical equipment and improve human resources.

Ha Noi to build waste streatment systems

Ha Noi will build waste treatment systems in 16 industrial clusters by 2015, including seven this year.

It will also provide funds for facilities like reservoirs and protective fences while the clusters will pay for the equipment and technology.

Firms fined for environmental violations

Last year the Viet Nam Environment Administration inspected 636 companies in petrol, shipping, paper, and chemicals located along rivers in 19 provinces and cities and in industrial zones and clusters.

It slapped fines of more than VND46.6 billion ($2.2 million) on 335 of them for violations.
