City ready to celebrate year-end season

The HCM City People's Council has worked with the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to organise activities during the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday.

Spring flower markets, a floral road festival, a book road festival and Lunar New Year's Eve celebrations will be held between January 24 and February 5.

Ministry urges localities to monitor prices

The Ministry of Finance has asked financial organisations to work closely with departments and organisations to oversee prices and markets that sell essential goods and services for the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday. Local authorities were asked to ensure that prices are not hiked on price-stabilised goods.

Foreign visitor arrivals tops 7.5m

Viet Nam welcomed more than 7.57 million foreign visitors this year, a year-on-year rise of 10.6 per cent, according to the General Statistics Office of Viet Nam.

Of that number, tourists accounted for 4.64 million, a surge of 12 per cent compared to last year.

Arrivals by air rose 7 per cent to reach 5.98 million and more than 1.39 million visitors arrived by land, a year-on-year increase of 41.9 per cent.

A total of 193,300 visitors arrived by sea, a fall of 32 per cent compared to last year.

Noi Bai-Lao Cai Highway section opens

The Viet Nam Expressway Corporation has announced that the A1 package of the Noi Bai- Lao Cai Highway Project will open to traffic on December 27.

The corporation will temporarily operate the highway's 26.7-kilometre section with four lanes. Toll fees range between VND40,000 and VND150,000 per turn according to vehicles.

The US$1.25 billion project with a length of 245 kilometres is expected to open to traffic by next June.
