The Ministry of Transport and the provinces of Binh Dinh and Gia Lai last Sunday began a project to upgrade a section of Highway No.19 that links the two provinces. Total capital for the 56-km highway section is VND2 trillion ($95 million).

Mountain cattle receive protection
The Department of Husbandry has sent three teams to protect cows and buffaloes from cold weather in northern mountainous provinces, where temperatures have fallen below 5 degrees Celsius. The department also asked farmers to feed their cattle more rice and corn bran.

Ministry compiles student behavior standards
The Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs will be compiling criteria for student behavior at schools and society in general with the assistance of the Ministry of Education and Training. Assistance programmes for disadvantaged students and those with poor marks will also be carried out to reduce the number of dropouts. Swimming will be taught nationwide in an effort to reduce the number of drowning deaths.

Phu Yen Province lodges request for rice
Phu Yen Province submitted a proposal to the Government asking for 760 tonnes of rice to solve the food shortage for residents during the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday and the lean period next year. The last storm caused damages worth nearly VND60 billion ($2.9 million).
In the beginning of December, the province allocated nearly VND1.6 billion ($76,190) to assist households damaged by heavy rains in the districts of Phu Hoa, Dong Hoa, Song Hinh and Tuy Hoa.
