VN makes headway against organised crime

Update: December, 09/2013 - 09:18
Over the last three years, police have busted around 12,600 criminal gangs, arrested over 41,600 people and confiscated goods and property worth VND142 billion (US$7 million). Many major criminal gangs in the northern provinces of Hai Phong, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, Hung Yen and HCM City have been eradicated.

In the coming months and years, the nation's police force will step up the campaign against organised crime, authorities have pledged.

Import of ‘low level' firecrackers approved

The Ministry of Public Security has agreed with a proposal made by the Defense Ministry to allow the import 20,000 boxes of "low level" firecrackers that can be used for the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) festival at the end of January 2014. The "low level" firecrackers will have a limited range and visibility. The approval of firecracker imports follows a huge fire that destroyed a major fireworks factory in the northern province of Phu Tho in October.
