Sixty-five die on roads in one day

On Monday, 65 people died and 94 were injured in a total of 155 road accidents across the country, according to the Department of Road and Railroad Traffic Police.

The number of accidents is rising at an alarming rate despite efforts by the police and transport authorities, police said.

HCM City to produce 300 CNG buses

The Sai Gon Transportation Mechanical Corporation (Samco) will produce 300 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) at the cost of VND163billion (US$7.7 million). CNG buses cause less pollution and are cheaper than diesel vehicles.

Free eye surgery offered to the poor

Vietnamese and Australian physicians on Monday performed free eye surgeries to 150 poor patients at Nguyen Dinh Chieu Hospital in southern Ben Tre Province.

This year, the hospital has offered free eye surgeries to more than 500 poor patients in the province at the cost of more than VND1 billion (US$47,620), donated by the Australian-Vietnamese Health and Welfare Association.
