PM Dung approves Cambodia border gates

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a plan to develop border gates between Viet Nam and Cambodia this decade.

It gives priority to infrastructure and facilities at main and auxiliary border gates.

The plan includes building the Hoa Lu international railway border gate in the southeastern province of Binh Phuoc.

VN becomes fifth largest textile exporter

Viet Nam has become the world's fifth largest textile and apparel exporter, the Viet Nam Garment and Textile Association reported at a meeting held in the northern province of Bac Giang on Tuesday.

The country has the opportunity to develop the sector but also faces challenges like lack of raw materials, equipment, and technologies in the domestic market, dependence on subcontracting work, and fierce competition from countries that produce apparel at cheap prices, it said.

Third phase of trade promotion approved

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved the third phase of the 2013 national trade promotion programme, which includes eight campaigns with a total budget of VND1.78 billion (US$ 84,000).

The eight include promoting exports, selling goods to rural, mountainous, and island areas, and providing training in trade promotion for enterprises, co-operatives, and promotional agencies.

The three phases of the programme comprise a total of 125 campaigns at a cost of VND93.73 billion ($4.46 million).
