Children receive free swimming classes

Viet Nam has provided more than 2,500 free swimming classes for more than 60,000 children after one year of implementing a project to prevent drowning among children, according to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Dong Thap welcomes one million visitors

The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Dong Thap has received more than 1.1 million visitors, both local and international, in the first eight months of this year, a rise of 35 per cent over the same period last year. The province targets welcoming 2 million visitors by 2014.

Long An starts work on stretch of highway

The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Long An began work on a project to expand a section of National Highway 1A that passes through the province's Tan An City.

The project, which is expected to be completed by 2015, costs VND800 billion ($37.6 million), with VND321 billion ($15 million) funded by the State budget.

White-legged shrimp may top exports list

White-legged shrimp is expected to surpass tiger shrimp as the country's major shrimp export this year as farmers are shifting to the white variety due to a shorter raising time.

Exports of tiger shrimp reached $731 million or 47.6 per cent of total seafood exports as of the middle of last month. White-legged shrimp exports were $690 million or 45 per cent of the total.
