Traffic police do their bit to stop crime

Traffic police officers have arrested 690 criminals this year, including 126 who transported or possessed drugs, 112 burglars, two wanted criminals, and 28 firearm owners.

They also found 860 vehicles transporting other prohibited and restricted items and contraband.

Children's fund provides free operations

More than 2,000 children across the country received eye and cleft lip surgery in the first five months through the Viet Nam Children Support Fund. The fund spent VND8 billion (US$380,000) on this, and is soliciting a further VND31 billion from donors to help needy children.This year it hopes to raise VND50 billion in all and support 1,200 – 2,000 children in difficult circumstances until they turn 18.

It will build kindergartens and boarding schools in a mountainous district in central Thanh Hoa Province and an island in Quang Ngai Province, also in the central region.

Quang Ngai subsidises offshore fishing

The central province of Quang Ngai last Friday decided to provide a subsidy of VND29.9 billion (US$1.4 million) for offshore fishing.

Of the sum, VND27.5 billion ($1.3 million) will be used to subsidise fuel for 381 boats owned by fishermen in Ly Son, Binh Son, Son Tinh, Tu Nghia, and Duc Pho Districts.

The rest has been earmarked for buying insurance and communication equipment for 120 boats.

Since 2010 the province has spent VND150 billion ($71.4 million) on offshore fishing.

Decision on online shopping explained

The Viet Nam E-commerce and Information Technology Agency (VECITA) held a conference to introduce decision 52/2013/ND-CP on e-commerce in Ha Noi on Thursday.

The decision pertains to online shopping websites and their security.

It takes effect as of July 1.
