Thua Thien-Hue attracts FDI projects

A total of 66 FDI projects worth nearly US$2 billion are currently operating in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue, according to the provincial People's Committee.

For this year, the province targets attracting 10-15 FDI projects with a total registered capital of US$300 million.

To achieve the target, it is offering favourable investment and business environments for foreign investors.

Nha Trang offers free swimming classes

The Nha Trang chapter of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union on Wednesday kicked off a programme that will offer free swimming classes to students this summer.

Under the programme, students aged 15 and above can take the swimming classes that will also include first aid lessons and other responses to water-related accidents.

City takes action to keep children safe

The HCM City People's Committee plans to hold a series of activities to improve child safety in June to mark the International Children's Day (June 1).

The committee estimates that around 70,000 children, six per cent of the total, are vulnerable to violence, child labour, injuries and crimes.

23,200 firms close shutters or go bankrupt

More than 23,200 enterprises either went bankrupt or halted operation in the first five months of the year, half of last year's figure, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Planning and Investment.

In the month of May alone, 3,590 enterprises were dissolved or halted operations.
