Ministry takes steps to control rabies

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has approved a programme to control and eradicate rabies from now to 2015.

The ministry targets cutting the death rate caused by rabid dogs by 10 per cent compared to the figure from 2010-2012. It also aims to have at least 60 per cent of dogs vaccinated.

By 2015, it targets having 80 per cent of dogs vaccinated. There are about 7 million dogs nationwide.

Tien Giang calls for investment in 11 projects

The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province of Tien Giang's Investment and Trade Promotion Centre has a list of 11 projects to attract investment this year, with a total capital of VND5.2 trillion (US$247 million).

Of the total, the centre said there would be many major projects, including Road 878 in Tan Phuoc District, which has capital of VND985 billion ($47 million), Road 871B in Go Cong Town with an investment of VND830 billion ($39 million), and an apartment building.

Power use spikes due to hot weather

Electricity of Viet Nam (EVN) on Tuesday reported that power usage nationwide rose substantially in the last several days of hot weather.

On Monday, the usage increased to more than 408 million kWh, a year-on-year increase of 23 per cent.

In Ha Noi, total power usage on the same day rose by 44 per cent over the same day last year, with 44.6 million kWh. The figure in HCM City was 16.5 per cent and 56.8 million kWh, respectively.
