Long An Province to establish new town

The People's Committee of southern Long An Province has announced its decision to establish a new town called Kien Tuong.

Kien Tuong Town will comprise the land and residents of the old Moc Hoa Town, which grouped Moc Hoa District's Tuyen Thanh, Binh Hiep, Binh Tan, Thanh Hung, and Thanh Tri communes.

Ha Noi expands Ba Vi Hospital

The Ha Noi Department of Health has begun implementing a project to expand and upgrade the Ba Vi Hospital. The first phase of the project has a capital of VND500 billion.

When the project is completed, the hospital will become a second-level hospital with 400 beds under criteria set by the Ministry of Health.

Vinh Long helps farmers improve production

Southern Vinh Long Province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has invested VND932 million (US$44,000) this year in helping rural communes develop agricultural production.

The Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta province has helped farmers carry out 43 different production models on an area of 1,200ha. It has also organised 480 training courses that will help rural households apply more effective cultivation techniques.

70,000 rural people receive free healthcare

About 5,000 young doctors joined a festival organised on Sunday by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and Association of Young Vietnamese Doctors to provide free medicines and health care services to 70,000 people in rural areas.

As part of the festival, 1,000 elderly people received free eye surgeries. Many others benefited from training courses on maintaining good health.

Deputy head of the Youth Union Nguyen Phi Long said they managed to raise donations of VND10 billion from enterprises to support the festival.

HCM City tightens control on vehicle loads

HCM City has announced it will install an automatic system to supervise and control the load carried by vehicles at the Cat Lai Harbour. The system is expected to facilitate inspections and punishment of overloaded vehicles and other infringements.
