Rice to be given to the needy during Tet
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has told the Ministry of Finance to provide 4,947 tonnes of rice from the national reserves to the severely disadvantaged in Ninh Binh, Son La and Yen Bai provinces for the Tet (Lunar New Year) holiday and during the period between crops.
Ninh Binh Province will receive 1,013 tonnes of rice; Son La, 3,504 tonnes; and Yen Bai, 430 tonnes.
Last month, more than 33,000 tonnes of rice from the national reserves were provided to 15 localities for the Tet festival and the period between harvests.

Saigontourist opens information centre
The Saigontourist Travel Service Company on Monday opened a Tourism Information Centre at 102 Nguyen Hue Street in District 1. The centre will provide information for many services, including tours, tourist sites in the country, hotels, entertainment and shopping. Saigontourist also runs the Travel Information and Service Centre at its head office at 45 Le Thanh Ton Street in District 1.

Red Cross presents Tet gifts to the poor
HCM City Red Cross has received more than VND18.2 billion (US$867,000) from donors for its programme to assist the needy during Tet. With the sum, the Red Cross this week will present 45,000 gifts to underprivileged people in HCM City and remote areas in provinces.

Seafood exports rise 3.5% in January
The export turnover for aquatic products in the first month of 2013 reached US$376 million, a rise of 3.5 per cent compared to the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
The main importers of Vietnamese seafood are the US, Japan and Korea. Seafood export turnover is expected to reach US$6.4 billion this year.
