Ninh Thuan plans poverty alleviation

The Ninh Thuan People's Committee has said that it would use VND320 billion from the State and local budgets to build essential infrastructure to facilitate production and trade as well as the daily lives of residents in Bac Ai District. The disbursement will take place during the 2013-2015 period under the national poverty alleviation programme.

The province will use the funds to improve the traffic system, build new irrigation systems and upgrade existing ones, set up a standardised healthcare system as well as a vocational training centre.

Overseas remittances rise in HCM City

According to the State Bank of Viet Nam, overseas remittances to HCM City in 2012 reached US$4.1 billion, up 15 per cent over last year. The remittances were mainly sent from the US and Europe.

Central province stocks up in time for Tet

Quang Nam's Department of Industry and Trade said that as of Wednesday, trading enterprises in the province have stored goods worth VND251 billion to meet high consumer demand for the upcoming Tet (Lunar New Year) festival.

The stocked goods include 3,090 tonnes of rice, 110 tonnes of sticky rice, 108,000 litres of cooking oil, 63 tonnes of salt, 174.5 tonnes of sugar, 37.5 tonnes of confectionary, and 14.5 tonnes of meat.

The province has 49 points of sale, 22 of which are located in mountainous and remote areas.

The Da Nang City People's Committee has decided to invest VND100 billion, VND79 billion of which will be sourced from the World Bank, to upgrade the An Trach Dam and supply water to the Cau Do Water Supply Plant to deal with saline intrusion.

City workers offered Tet gift packages

The management board of HCM City Industrial and Export Processing Zone has co-operated with the Business Studies and Assistance Center, and the Sai Gon Union of Trading Co-operatives to implement programme supplying gift items at preferential prices for workers.

These include high quality made-in-Viet Nam goods like rice, cooking oil, fish sauce, cookies, candy and coke at 20-25 per cent discounts. The gift baskets are priced from VND122,000 to VND140,000.
