Sea dyke proposal met with resounding no

Update: December, 27/2012 - 08:49
The HCM City People's Committee has rejected the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development's plan to build a sea dyke from Tien Giang to Ba Ria -Vung Tau provinces to prevent flooding and salination in HCM City, Tien Giang, and Long An.

It said the dyke may not prove beneficial, but would create critical environmental and economical problems.

It said the dyke would destroy the ecology of the Can Gio mangrove forests and impede access to deep seaports in HCM City and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
