The southern province of Bac Lieu has set up a team to inspect shops to check fakes and keep prices stable during Tet in early February.
From the end of this month the team will monitor shops selling fresh and canned foods, vegetables, clothes, cosmetics, electronic products, oil, fuel, and animal feed.

Veterans donate land for irrigation
The southern province of Vinh Long said that more than 300 veterans' families have donated nearly 70,000sq.m of land to carry out irrigation and transportation works and build schools.
Many veterans have also signed up for programmes to upgrade 120km of rural roads, dredge 12km of canals, and build 21 dams.

City braces for New Year transport surge
The HCM City's Mien Tay (West bound) Bus Station has urged transport companies to operate at full capacity to meet the demand during the New Year holidays starting on Saturday.
It expects passenger numbers to be 30-40 per cent higher than normal at 30,000-34,000 per day.
The city's Public Transport Management and Operation Centre said it plans to add more than 1,2000 trips on 14 routes covering amusement places and others in the city.

Bien Hoa tollgate to increase fees
The Ministry of Transport has given the green light for a tollgate in the southern Bien Hoa city to hike the fee in the new year.
The new fees, double the earlier ones, will range from VND20,000 to VND160,000.
The old fees were fixed in 2004, and are now reportedly too meagre for the road investor to recoup the invesment.
