EU donates $18m to VN health system

The EU will donate 14 million euros (US$18.47 million) to improve Viet Nam's community health system in 2013.

The news was released by the Health Ministry at a national conference on Healthcare Support to the Poor of the Northern Uplands and Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands).

The conference was held in Ha Noi on December 20-21. The funds are the second part of a 39 million euro ($51.65 million) package from the EU.

Vietsovpetro to exploit 5.4m tonnes of oil

The Vietsovpetro Joint Venture Company targets exploiting 5.4 million tonnes of crude oil in 2013, said the company's general director Nguyen Huu Tuyen.

In 2012, the company exploited 6.11 million tonnes of crude with turnover reaching US$5.43 million.

$27m to defuse old bombs in Khanh Hoa

About VND575 billion (US$27.6 million) will be spent to defuse bombs and explosives on 13,000ha in the central province of Khanh Hoa from 2012 to 2015 as part of a project to remove explosives left over from wartime.

Approved by the provincial People's Committee and overseen by the provincial Military Command, the project aims to bring safety to local people and stimulate the development of the area's economy.

Nearly VND411.5 billion ($19.7 million) will come from the State budget and the rest will be mobilised from world organisations and individuals at home and abroad.
