HCM City to step up food safety tests

HCM City's Department of Health and market management agencies will set up teams to inspect companies producing food, candy, sweetened dry fruits, Chinese sausage and beverages for Tet (the lunar New Year) for food hygiene and safety. Inspection will focus on dangerous flavour enhancers and chemical additives in food that are harmful to health.

Youth Union to hold national congress this month

The National Congress of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union will be organised in Ha Noi from Dec.11-14. The congress will be attended by 1,000 youth representing more than seven million members of Youth Unions in the country. The youngest delegate to the congress will be 15-year-old Duong Minh Anh, a 10th grader at Chu Van An Senior High School in Ha Noi.

Construction begins on new bridge in Vinh Long

Works started on Monday on the construction of Vinh Xuan Bridge on National Route 54 in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta Province of Vinh Long's Tra On District at the cost of VND51 billion (US$2.4million). The construction of the 51m-long by 9-m-wide bridge will be completed early in 2014.

Khanh Hoa exports exceed $1 billion in first 11 months

The central province of Khanh Hoa exported goods worth US$1.06billion in the first 11 months of this year, up 22 per cent year-on-year, according to the General Statistics Department.

Exports earned by foreign-invested businesses hit $582million. Private businesses had $414million and the rest was from state businesses. This is the first time the province's exports values had exceeded $1billion. Khanh Hoa's main export items included seafood, coffee, garments and textiles.
