Workers receive legal advice

Information on the Health Insurance Law and the Social Insurance Law were provided to more than 1,000 workers at businesses in the Mekong Delta Province of Tra Vinh last week. The workers were invited to meetings organised by the provincial Labour Federation in co-operation with the Social Insurance Department.

City revokes licence of Melior School

HCM City's Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Department on Monday withdrew the licence for the Singapore-owned Melior Business School Viet Nam. The school had been licensed to offer only short-term courses in tourism, hotel management and business administration but was found offering undergraduate university courses. The Ministry of Education and Training had asked the HCM City Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs to revoke the licence following the school's sudden closure last week.

VISSAN to spend $19m to store meat for Tet

VISSAN, Viet Nam's biggest slaughterhouse and meat processing company, will invest VND400 billion (US$19 million) to store meat and processed food for 2013 Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays, according to VISSAN's director general Van Duc Muoi. VISSAN has signed contracts to buy pigs from farmers in neighbouring provinces, including Binh Duong and Dong Nai, to prepare for the Tet market, which will fall in February next year.
