Delta province to set up agriculture zone

The authorities of southern Hau Giang Province said they have received the Prime Minister's approval to establish a 5,200-ha high-tech agricultural zone in Long My District.

The zone will have a central building on a 415-ha plot. The remaining area will be dedicated to cultivating crop varieties applying advanced technology. The first of its kind in the Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta, the zone is expected to boost hi-tech agricultural development in the entire region.

Families evacuated from polluted areas

The Environment and Natural Resources Institute has worked with local authorities to do more researches in areas affected by pollution through the release of untreated wastewater by the Sonadezi Long Thanh Company, a subsidiary of the industrial park developer, Sonadezi Corporation, in southern Dong Nai Province.

The evacuation has been carried out to facilitate re-zoning of the polluted areas. A total of 271 families have filed petitions asking for compensation, but only 160 families are so far considered to be from the affected areas.

Hand-foot-mouth on the rise in HCM City

The HCM City Centre for Preventive Medicine has announced that the number of cases infected with hand-foot-mouth disease and petechial fever have increased over the last few weeks.

HFMD saw an increase from 1,212 cases in July to 2,258 last month, or a rise of 86.3 per cent.

Meanwhile, petechial fever cases have gone up by 17.4 per cent last month compared with July.

The total number of HFMD cases in HCM City so far this year has climbed to 7,804, including six deaths. These figures do not include patients treated at home for light symptoms.
