Phu Yen shores up riverbanks
Phu Yen Province on Monday inaugurated a 4.4km embankment along the Tam Giang River in Song Cau town.
The embankment, which cost VND160 billion (US$7.6 million) to build, will protect the riverbank from erosion. River encroachment in the area have threatened more than 1,000 houses living along the river.

Fewer tourists go to Da Nang beaches
Tourist arrivals at beaches in Da Nang city and Son Tra Island were down 20 per cent year-on-year during the recent National Day holidays from September 1 to 3, according to the Managing Committee of Son Tra Island and Da Nang's Beaches.
Unfavourable weather was said to be the main reason for the reduction in the number of both foreign and domestic tourists.

Graduates to work in poor villages
The Youth Union of Thanh Hoa Province recently sent 60 university graduates aged between 22 and 32, to work in 60 poor villages around the province as deputy chairpersons of people's committees.
It is hoped the youths will contribute to socio-economic development and poverty alleviation in the villages.

Employers fail to pay social insurance
Gia Lai Province's Social Insurance Agency said businesses owed more than VND37 billion (US$1.7 million) in workers' social and health insurance premiums as of July.
The province's Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and Labour Federation have been enlisted to persuade businesses to comply with the Labour Law and safeguard workers' rights.
