Phu Yen Province opens new dam

Central Phu Yen Province on September 2 inaugurated a dam in the lower section of the Tam Giang River in Song Cau town.

Built at a cost of more than VND160 billion (US$7.6 million), it was in a list of urgent projects to be funded by issuing government bonds.

200 spots to collect hazardous waste in City

The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union and the HCM City Department of Environment and Natural Resources will set up hazardous waste collection facilities at 200 spots around the city, including some at universities, between September 30 and December 9.

They will also organise many programmes to encourage people to classify rubbish before discarding and teach them to treat hazardous wastes to protect the environment.

Ca Mau buys insurance for shrimp farmers

SouthernmostCa Mau Province has earmarked more than VND200 million ($9,500) to pilot an agricultural insurance programme that will benefit 20,000 shrimp farmers in Dam Doi and Cai Nuoc Districts and Ca Mau city.

Chau Cong Bang, deputy head of the province's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said the insurance would help reduce farmers' losses when shrimp die and help them begin afresh.
