The HCM City Department of Transport has chosen four out of 18 sites suggested by district authorities for building underground car parks in future, according to Bui Xuan Cuong, its deputy director.
The parking lots will be built below the Phu Tho Gymnasium in District 11, Ly Thuong Kiet Residential Quarter and Le Thi Rieng Park in District 10, and 63-65 Tan Thanh Street in District 5.

Thanh Hoa kids get schoolbags that float
The National Fund for Children and the Viet Nam Confederation of Labour on Monday gifted schoolbags that could be used as lifejackets to 240 students of Hoang Xuyen Primary School in Thanh Hoa Province's Hoang Hoa District.
The bags will help prevent drowning during the flood season, a frequent occurrence in many parts of the country.

Construction begins on new highway links
The central Binh Dinh Province on Monday began construction of the Long Van-Long My road linking National Highways 1A and 1D in Quy Nhon town.
Construction of the 7km road is expected to cost VND995 billion (US$47.3 million). It will be completed in 2015.

Traffic accidents kill 61 in July in HCM City
There were 67 road accidents in HCM City last month in which 61 people died and 25 others were injured. The number of deaths was down by 18 per cent from the same period last year, and injuries by 19 per cent.
The city People's Committee's vice chairman Nguyen Huu Tin on Monday ordered district authorities to take drastic measures to limit accidents in their areas.
