HCM City to tackle pollution in channel

The HCM City People's Committee has approved a project to collect wastewater and rainfall in the Tham Luong – Ben Cat channel and a downstream pumping station.

It seeks to resolve the flood situation and reduce pollution in Districts 12, Go Vap, and Binh Thanh through which it runs.

The work is expected to finish by 2015 and cost VND5 trillion (US$250 million).

EVN to maintain 13% annual power growth

In the next four years, Electricity of Viet Nam Group (EVN) will install 42 turbines with a total capacity of 11,600MW at 20 power projects, ensuring annual growth of 13 per cent.

In 2016-20, EVN will build 14 other projects with a capacity of 12,410 MW at an estimated cost of around VND369 trillion ($18.5 billion).

Experts want labour database set up

Experts have urged the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the National Assembly's Social Affairs Commission to create a labour database to ease administrative procedures.

This is also expected to help authorities mitigate the current situation in which many workers lack labour contracts.

This would also help enforce the proposed Employment Law.

Hospitals told to publicly list all new rates

The Ministry of Health has instructed to all provincial health departments and central hospitals, to publicly list their new tariffs and provide clear explanations about fee hikes to patients.

Around 10 provinces have approved fee hikes at public hospitals but many people reportedly do not know about them.
