Ministry drafts plan for organising festivals

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism held a conference in the northern province of Hai Duong to draft a general plan for organising festivals through 2020.

The plan focuses on traditional festivals, which account for more than 88 per cent of the almost 8,000 held in the country every year. It also specifies how to celebrate the festivals in conformity with traditional culture.

Hospital fees set to increase from August

Hospital fees will increase in more than 50 provinces from August 1. In around 30 of them, it will increase to 70-80 per cent of the maximum permitted level, while in a few like Khanh Hoa, Dong Thap, and Ninh Thuan, it will go up to 93-95 per cent.

MARD takes measures against landslides

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has drawn up a project for preventing landslides along the 70-km stretch of the Dong Nai River in Cat Tien District in Lam Dong Province.

Landslides there threaten 100 houses in Phu My Commune and on provincial Road 721, a vital highway linking Central Highland Lam Dong Province with Binh Phuoc Province.

The ministry will be responsible for a 250-m stretch in the commune, and the province for the rest.

City lacks $673 million to bury power lines

The HCM City Power Corporation announced it needs VND14 trillion (US$673 million) to bury 5,000km of power cables underground in central districts by 2020. In 10 years since it started, the corporation has buried cables in streets like Le Loi, Le Duan, Nguyen Hue, and Nam Ky Khoi Nghia at a cost of VND150 billion ($7.2 million).
