Women's Union plants trees across City

The HCM City Women's Union launched a programme called Tree Planting for New Rural Areas in Hoc Mon District this week. The programme seeks to plant 16,000 trees in the city's five rural districts of Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh, Cu Chi, Nha Be and Can Gio. This year 1,400 trees will be planted.

Thu Dau Mot becomes provincial city

The Government has allowed the Binh Duong Province township of Thu Dau Mot to be designated as a provincial city, according to the local People's Committee. The new city measures over 11,866 ha and has 244,277 residents. It comprises of 14 administrative units.

Contest mulls role of mothers in society

A writing contest on the topic of mothers and their roles in modern society for workers in HCM City has received more than 40,000 entries. The contest, organised by the city Labour Union, seeks to encourage workers, especially women, to express their ideas on women's rights and duties at home and the workplace. It opened last month and closed on Wednesday.

City has 70,000 disadvantaged children

HCM City has 70,000 underprivileged children, with 1,450 of them being homeless and 342 being forced to work in unsafe conditions, according to the municipal Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Authorities are working to improve the lives of these children, creating a safe and healthy living environment to safeguard them from sexual, physical, and labour abuses.

Family Day marked in HCM City

A plethora of community and cultural programmes were organised yesterday in HCM City to celebrate Viet Nam Family Day. The events, mostly organised by the city Labour Union and Women's Union, were aimed at offering people, particularly youths, the opportunity to learn more about the values of love and family. Seminars were held to help participants improve their knowledge about issues like why and how families safeguard the traditional culture and lifestyle.
