HCM City to upgrade public bus system

A project to upgrade public bus services is set to be approved by the HCM City government later this month.

Under the project, in 2012-15, the bus system will add 10 new routes and 1,680 buses at a cost of around VND2 trillion (US$100 million).

There are now 85 routes and 1,516 buses operated by 15 transport companies.

HCM City Youth Union to provide swimming lessons

The HCM City Youth Union will provide swimming training for students in rural districts this summer.

During the two-month programme 30,000 children aged between eight and 16 will also be taught the use of swimming safety equipment and about safety in the water and life-saving skills.

Libraries to get books on ethnic folk art

The Viet Nam Folk Arts Association's five-year project, Introducing and Expanding Folk Arts Property, launched in 2008 is set to publish 1,000 books and documents on ethnic minority folk arts and literature collected and written by 446 cultural experts and researchers.

Copies of the works will be presented to libraries and universities.

Children's book fair opens doors to public

A children's book fair opened in HCM City's Nha Be District yesterday with 10,000 different books and magazines printed by domestic and foreign publishers.

The organiser of the four-day event, HCM City Book Distribution (FAHASA) company, will offer hundreds of gifts to poor and outstanding students.

The fair will move to Hoc Mon District on June 21.
