The HCM City People's Committee has instructed the city Steering Centre for Anti-Flooding Programme to complete the works required to stop flooding on streets by this year.
The centre is also working on a project to end flooding on inter-provincial Road 43, Au Co, Bau Cat, Dong Den, and Hoa Binh which are rated as the worst affected. Nguyen Huu Canh, Le Duc Tho, Nguyen Van Qua, Huynh Tan Phat, and Kinh Duong Vuong Streets are also on the list.
Besides, it is focusing on 57 construction sites that are affecting the sewage system, speeding up work on the Hang Bang, Tan Hoa, Phan Van Han, Cau Bup canals, and working on 22 other projects.

Women forced to work in dodgy parlours
A gang forcing indebted women to work for karaoke and massage parlours has been busted in the southern province of Tay Ninh, according to the local police.
They said they raided five karaoke parlours and six guesthouses in Bu Dop District in neighbouring Binh Phuoc Province, rescuing six women and arresting Le Thanh Phuc and his wife Nguyen Thi Minh Ly.
Phuc and Ly have been charged with giving loans to these women at very high interest rates and, when they could not repay, forcing them to work at karaoke and massage parlours.

State Bank sets out debit card road map
The State Bank of Viet Nam has decided to implement a project to increase non-cash transactions by 2015.
It has worked out a roadmap under which this year it will complete legal documents, establishing standards for the use of credit and other cards, and developing cards with built-in chips.
Next year it will create mechanisms and draft policies to encourage electronic transactions.
The central bank will pilot new payment methods, including doing large transactions through banks.
