Deposit interest rates likely to drop to 9%

According to the State Bank of Viet Nam, deposit interest rates are likely to drop to 9 per cent per year by the end of this year if the macro-economy is stable and inflation maintains low. This would help businesses have greater access to low interest-rate loans.

The State Bank also plans to set up a company that buys and sells bank debt, with chartered capital of VND100 trillion (US$476 billion), in a bid to buy and sell bad debt at joint-stock commercial banks during the process of restructuring the banking system.
